Unibet Poker Ambassador David Lappin Wins Big on Day 2 of the Cash Game Festival Bratislava Day 2 of the Cash Game Festival Bratislava at Banco Casino was a huge success. The day began for those with the hospitality package with a laser tag competition at Space World. In addition, players were able to enjoy ping pong, foosball, pool, and FIFA, Of course, there were free drinks throughout the more than three hours spent at the venue along with free lunch. The action at the tables was hot as well with eight tables running simultaneously or one more than yesterday. To put this into perspective, the casino usually attracts one to two tables on a typical Thursday night. Cash Game Festival Head of Media Henry Kilbane is normally commentating the feature tables. When a seat opened up on the early €1/€3 no-limit hold'em feature he decided to show his fans that he can play poker as well. He wound up being the biggest winner after booking a tidy profit of €380 or 126.7 big blinds. Kilbane wasn't the star of the day as this honor belongs to Unibet Poker Ambassador and The Chip Race Co-host David Lappin. After the game changed to €5/€5 pot-limit Omaha at the feature table, Lappin bought in for €532.

The pair topped a field of 97 total pairs to take home the trophies and winner's t-shirts. Many people including fellow Winamax Team Pros Sylvain Loosli and Romain Lewis have likened the event to the week's "Second Main Event" and Baumann said she was overjoyed to win the tournament. "It's perhaps even better than the Main Event because it's here in Dublin!" said Baumann. "You know, with people drinking and having fun. It's funny because when I'm playing beer pong I'm just so focussed it's like I can't lose. Even more so than in poker. And winning with my [Kevin] is something you always want so it's nice, it's really nice." "We had six months training(!)" said Harper jokingly. "For me, this is my Main Event because I'm covering the proper Main Event. This is the only moment all week where I can win." The home favourites, as they clearly were, got off to the worst possible start after their opponents eliminated three cups in a row, but after Baumann and Harper both landed their balls in the same cup, it was all square at seven cups each.
This hot topic was discussed this week on TheLines sports betting podcast . Looking ahead, it could be an interesting next few years in the argument for federal sports betting legislation . McCain wasn’t an ally for sports betting. In 2001, he introduced the Amateur Sports Integrity Act, which would have made it a violation of Federal law, by amending the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, “to gamble on Olympic, college, and high school sports….” “Betting on amateur athletics invites public speculation as to the legitimacy of the competition and transforms student athletes into objects to bet upon. Adding unwarranted pressure from corrupting influences to the underlying pressures that these intensively competitive young people already feel is unacceptable.” McCain hypothesized that the ban on legal wagering on amateur athletics would have a trickle-down effect on the illegal gambling markets as well. McCain’s introduction of the Amateur Sports Integrity Act was met with a stern rebuke by Nevada Senator John Ensign, who challenged McCain’s assertions that expanding the betting prohibition would somehow help make a dent in the illegal market. Ensign went on to rail against the purported concerns of the NCAA stating: “Last year the NCAA spent only $229,000 of its over $300 million budget on combatting illegal gambling. That’s about three cents for each student attending an NCAA school. In fact, the NCAA spent 40 times more on marketing and promotion, not on the games, but just on the NCAA itself, than on fighting illegal sports betting on college campuses. It’s time for the NCAA to put its money where its mouth is and show a true commitment to fighting sports betting on college campuses.” McCain’s 2001 efforts would fail, never becoming law. McCain’s position on sports betting would pivot during his later years in the Senate.
A screenshot of the Pennsylvania Lottery’s new iLottery website, showing a winner in a demonstration game of “Slingo.” Casinos say the state agency’s offerings mimic casino games and have asked the Lottery to suspend the games. (Courtesy of Pennsylvania Lottery) Despite any misgivings, three casinos applied Friday for certificates to offer interactive gaming: Parx in Bensalem, Mount Airy in the Poconos, and the yet-to-be-built Stadium Casino in South Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has up to 90 days to approve the licenses. Douglas Harbach, the gaming board spokesperson, declined to disclose any additional petitions that might have been received Monday. The licenses allow the casinos to offer online gaming in three categories : peer-to-peer interactive games such as poker; non-peer-to-peer interactive table games; and interactive games that simulate slot machines. Any of the state's 13 casino license holders that did not apply by Monday for the three licenses have another 30 days to apply for individual interactive licenses in any of the gaming categories at a cost of $4 million per license. After Aug.

Sports gambling began to tempt lawmakers after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalized it earlier this year. The report released Thursday from the Pew Charitable Trusts said sports book likely won’t be a magic pill to cure state budget issues. Mary Murphy, one of the authors of the study, said tax collections from sports betting may not be new revenue. Rather, it’s likely to be money cannibalized from places such as casinos and the tax proceeds they generate. That’s based on past experiences when gambling has been expanded. “States could experience short-lived gains followed by downward pressure on revenue as more and more states legalize,” she said. Because there’s currently very little legal sports gambling, Murphy said it’s hard to estimate what the financial impact of sports betting could be. However, she said states shouldn’t count on a major bonanza. “The revenue streams will likely be small,” she said.
“It’s such a boon for the economy. People will watch the horseracing and they’ll eat and spend the weekend,” she said. “The horseman’s impact is good.” Patrons will place their bets at machines manned by clerks or at a self-serve machine. Some people prefer the self-serve machines because they feel there is less chance for error, McGovern said. These machines take vouchers or cash. When live racing begins next year, she said many people will want to see the horses before placing their bets. The horses and jockeys will walk and pose at the staging area at the front of the building before their race is called. Other bettors place wagers on a horse based on unrelated information. “I’m always amazed when someone new comes to the track and bets on a child’s birthdate, or the color or name of a horse, and they get lucky,” McGovern said with a laugh.
